The Manalaysay family grieves the death of their beloved daughter who was among the casualties of an apartment fire in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Six Filipinos were killed, including five months pregnant Karen Ann Manalaysay, her one-year old daughter and her husband.

The 31-year old Karen Ann had been working as a nurse in Saudi Arabia.

She was the breadwinner of the family, according to her father.

“She paid for our expenses. I cannot work anymore because I am old and diabetic. My wife asked me how am I going to sustain [my medication.] I told her we will survive,” Karen Ann’s father, Andres Manalaysay narrated.

The Manalaysay family asked the help of the Department of Foreign Affairs, allowing Andres to speak personally with President Rodrigo Duterte.

“He asked me about what transpired during my conversation with the DFA. He asked how long before we can see the remains. DFA told me about two to three weeks,” Andres said.

“He told me he will ask to expedite the process. I am very thankful to our president as he promised to help for the repatriation of my daughter’s remains,” he added.

Aside from the Manalaysay family, Tony Mapandi also sought help after losing his wife and two children in the fire.

“I ask the government to help me in repatriating my family if possible within one or two months. Please help me,” Mapandi pleaded to the government.

The fire broke out Saturday morning in the apartment unit of the victims.

The victims died of suffocation.

Based on initial investigation, an extension wire sparked, causing fire to spread onto the carpet at the living room of the apartment.
